Research interests include the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, and the concurrent treatment of these conditions. In addition, Dr. Coffey is interested in the role of emotion and impulsivity in substance dependence and uses laboratory models (e.g., cue reactivity) to elucidate the role of these constructs in the maintenance of substance use disorders. Dr. Coffey serves as the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on numerous grants funded by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute of Mental Health and other funding sources. He also serves on several Editorial Boards and is a standing member of a National Institute of Health Study Section. Dr. Coffey has received numerous awards for teaching, and for his research.
